India and Japan Strengthen Strategic Bonds During High-Level Visit

Date:

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi engaged in a pivotal meeting with Mr. Nukaga Fukushiro, the Speaker of Japan’s House of Representatives, along with his delegation of Japanese Parliament members and business leaders. The high-profile visit underscored the ongoing commitment to the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership.

The meeting highlighted significant progress on the ambitious target of a 5 trillion Japanese Yen investment in India, set for the 2022-2027 period. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the advancements made thus far and deliberated on strategies to further fortify business and economic relationships beyond 2027. The discussions also spanned traditional manufacturing sectors and emerging fields like semiconductors, electric vehicles (EVs), and clean energy, emphasizing the importance of continued collaboration.

A notable proposal from Mr. Nukaga was the development of a NextGen workforce through specialized training programs. This initiative aims to prepare individuals in Japanese language, culture, and work practices, thus creating a skilled workforce that can act as a bridge between India and Japan. Mr. Nukaga stressed the importance of private sector involvement in these training efforts to ensure their success.

Prime Minister Modi responded by showcasing India’s conducive business environment and recent reforms designed to attract Japanese investment and technology. He assured the delegation of the Indian government’s commitment to supporting these collaborative efforts, reinforcing a shared vision for deeper economic and strategic ties.

The meeting not only highlighted the successful collaboration on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail project but also set the stage for future advancements in bilateral relations. The discussions reinforced the enduring partnership between India and Japan, paving the way for expanded cooperation and mutual growth.
