PM Modi Meets Uruguay President Yamandú Orsi in Rio, Discusses Deepening Bilateral Ties

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil — Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with the President of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, on the sidelines of an international summit in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting marked a significant step in enhancing diplomatic and economic engagement between India and Uruguay.

The two leaders held detailed discussions on strengthening cooperation across a broad range of sectors, including trade, investment, renewable energy, information technology, pharmaceuticals, and cultural exchanges. Both sides emphasized the need to expand economic relations and create new opportunities for collaboration in innovation and sustainable development.

Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s growing role in the global economy and expressed India’s readiness to partner with Uruguay in areas of mutual interest. The leaders also discussed enhancing people-to-people connections, promoting academic and cultural exchanges, and increasing coordination in multilateral forums such as the United Nations.

This meeting reflects India’s broader diplomatic strategy of building stronger relationships with Latin American countries and diversifying its global partnerships. It also underscores Uruguay’s openness to engaging with emerging economies to foster growth and innovation.
