During a special lunch held in Auckland on the theme “India-New Zealand: A Winning Partnership,” Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon emphasized the growing momentum in India-New Zealand relations and the importance of enhancing cooperation in key sectors.

In his address, Prime Minister Luxon emphasized the strong and long-standing friendship between India and New Zealand, while also expressing a shared commitment to further enhancing mutual cooperation and fostering mutual growth. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the natural synergy between the two nations and the deep, enduring ties between their people.

He welcomed the elevation of India-New Zealand relations to the level of a ‘Strategic Partnership’ and expressed confidence that this new framework would strengthen and expand existing areas of cooperation. He also noted that the India-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement, concluded in record time, would open up new opportunities for businesses, the youth, and farmers in both countries, while also helping to achieve the shared goal of doubling bilateral trade by 2030.

After the gala lunch, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Luxon viewed the innovative sports equipment displayed at the venue. They also interacted with prominent New Zealand athletes and other figures associated with high-performance sports. Recalling the century-long sporting ties between the two nations, Prime Minister Modi stated that the ‘Sports Joint Action Plan’ formulated during this visit would help strengthen the relationship beyond just cricket. This visit aligned with the desire of both sides to enhance sports cooperation, especially given that India is preparing to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
